What a sad day as we finished our Summer School but what a brilliant ending! All the young people had put their heads together and worked extremely hard with Sarah to create a feast and a half for the final BBQ. They did a fantastic job and shared their successes and achievements with their nearest and dearest with another guest appearance from Smurf!
During the feast and BBQ we held a small ceremony to give out some well deserved certificates! Well Done everyone!
Not only that we created a ‘Wall of Wonder’ this was directed to the parents and guardians of all the young people and to ask of there was anything that stood out for them. All were given Post-It’s so they could anonymously write anything they felt we needed to hear under the titles of – The Good, The Bad and The Learning. We’ve had a fantastic response – take a look at some of the feedback!
Quite frankly this has been an amazing summer school. It has been thoroughly enjoyed by students, the staff and all the companies who’ve very kindly supported us. From all of the Ashington Summer School Team a HUGE thank you for making this such a successful experience had by all. We hope to see you next year!
WOW!! What a fantastic time we’ve had today. Not only had we finished our comic yesterday, today was the day we get to see it printed and in our hands! Very exciting. However, that was not just it. This morning we arrived at Potts Print UK in Cramlington and met up with Ian White the Creative & Technical Services Director. When we arrived Ian took us all through the printing process producing huge plate sheets showing us all the exact way huge print runs are created. These printers are MASSIVE and can cost £1.5 million! It’s such a complex process but Ian broke it down all very easily and even finished with the Bieber!
It didn’t end there! After our talk Ian took us through to the factory mezzanine where we could see the entire factory floor hard at work. There were machines, presses, printers galore!
Check out what they were looking at, very impressive:
AND… guess what it didn’t even end there. Next we got taken around the factory floor and were told about all the machinery and what everything does. This is such a huge place!
Today was a very important day with a very important deadline. Everyone had to get their comic story completed by lunchtime. We were very thankful all the preparation work had been done yesterday but today a tiny bit of pressure was needed to get heads down and hands drawing… BUT GUESS WHAT!!! WE DID IT!!!
Take a look at our fantastic team of comic story creators and illustrators:
Can we just add how proud we are of all our summer school students for getting this done on time!! Off to see it printed tomorrow at Potts Printers!!!

Summer School is kind of fun. You get to do lots of things like, go on an open top bus and go to lots of places all in one day.
Here are some of my favourite shots…
Thank you for letting me come to Summer School, I dont like the idea of School in Summer! However I came to give it a try!
